I’m pretty picky when it comes to choosing a personal trainer. I’ve been through a handful of personal trainers and in short, they flopped. The majority lacked the qualities that make a trainer great: giving simple instructions; setting a realistic tone; being easy to connect with; listening to the client; and challenging the client.
Last year I was consumed with work and neglected my body. I watched my pounds increase and knew I had to do something about my health. I talked to a number of trainers and they either turned me off or didn’t have the qualities I was looking for. When I met with Deanna, I knew instantly she was easy to connect with. We discussed my goals and the workouts we’d be doing. She set a realistic tone. She listened and understood my psychological and physical capabilities, but also understood when I needed to be challenged.
After working with Deanna for 4 months I have seen awesome results. Deanna is passionate about what she does and brings an incredible amount of energy to her work. Her knowledge of fitness and exercise is obvious. She can simplify a workout or make it more complex to challenge you to reach your maximum potential. She also teaches correct form with every exercise. She motivates me to push past my limits to get results -- knowing the right thing to say and when to say it. In short, I got great new muscles, I have incredible energy, and I truly love to work out.
If you want a true trainer who’s not interested in stroking their ego or telling you to pick up the biggest weight you can find; if you want a trainer who will lead you to a better, healthier life; if you want a trainer who will truly challenge you -- Deanna will lead the way.

Deanna is a fabulous teacher and coach. I may be grumpy when I arrive for a 6:00 a.m. workout, but I always leave smiling and energized.
Deanna challenges me but is always encouraging. She puts a ton of thought and time into her classes and personal training sessions. I've been doing personal sessions with her for about two months - 30 minutes three times a week - and the difference in my strength and stamina is dramatic (we alternate between strength training and aerobic training). Her dedication is evident in her detailed knowledge of the workouts we've done, including my favorite (and least favorite) exercises, and what weights are too heavy for me (or too light).
In terms of Guardian Krav Maga's regular classes, the cardio conditioning classes are by far the best workouts I've ever done (that includes cross fit, TRX, and other HIIT workouts). I've been doing them for about a month, and I'm in better shape than I have been in years. I also love that it is practical and defense-based.
In sum, I really can't say enough good things about Deanna! She is fierce, supportive, and awesome, and I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to have fun and get in great shape.
I took Deanna's Krav Maga and fitness classes for over a year when she taught at my gym in Oakland, and I recently engaged her as my personal trainer. She demonstrates techniques effectively and oversees her classes with a thoughtful and professional demeanor. She is serious about her work and is supportive in a range of ways, always knowing when someone just needs gentle instruction and when they need their butt kicked into gear.
